Trainee teachers

Every year we welcome trainees to the school and we have developed close links with Middlesex University, Enfield and Barnet Colleges and local secondary schools. We have a Training Partner award from LoNoCo, the London North Consortium who co-train our graduate teachers. Helping to train teachers in this way provides professional development opportunities for our staff, keeps us up to date with current educational practice and allows us to ‘grow our own’ teachers. Trainee teachers are always carefully monitored by the school to ensure continuity for the children. If you have any questions about teacher training at Merryhills please make an appointment to see the Headteacher.

Security and Safety

We aim to provide a secure environment for pupils and staff but we need your help. When you visit school during the day, please use the main entrance only. All visitors are required to sign in at the office on all visits to school.

We have a continual problem with some parents who park on the zigzag lines near the school entrances. Please remember that parking on these lines is not permitted at the beginning and end of the day. Parents are reminded that the car park is for staff use only unless you are a blue badge holder.

As a Healthy School, we promote walking to school and children are very pleased to receive their WOW (Walk Once a Week) badges. Please walk to and from school with your child, as this will benefit everyone, including yourself.

Complaints Process

We hope that your child will have a very happy and rewarding time at Merryhills, but occasionally something might go wrong. If you have any concerns about your child’s education you should first talk to their class teacher who should be able to resolve the matter. If, however, you are still not satisfied you should speak to one of the Assistant Heads to see if they can resolve the difficulty, and if that fails speak directly to the Headteacher.

We have a written complaints process, which is available from the school office and includes information about contacting the Chair of Governors and/or Local Authority.
