Merryhills Primary School

Charities

At Merryhills, we support a range of charities and are open to supporting new charities. As well as fundraising for the school, it is important that children see the impact they can have on the wider community, the UK and Globally.

Here is a list of some of the charities we already have links with:

British Red Cross - Miles for Refugees

As part of our whole school topic on Migration, we have supported the Red Cross initiative ‘Miles for Refugees’.  On this day, the school pupils walk a mile or two around the school grounds to help illustrate how far refugees have to walk for safety.

In 2023, we raised £603 and in 2022 we raised a fantastic £1,000!

Comic ReliefComic Relief and Red Nose Day rebrand to clear up “confusion” - Design Week

The children take part in a range of activities on the day around a certain theme to raise money for Comic Relief.

Save the Children

Save the Children – Healthy Newborn NetworkEach year we raise funds for Save the Children by hosting a winter jumper day. We encourage children to use second hand jumpers and self created jumpers so as to also do our bit for sustainability in our current climate.

British Legion- Poppy Appeal

Local Volunteers bring around poppies to the school each November so as to raise funds for the British Region in support as part of Remembrance Day.  You can find two useful videos on the story of the poppy here:
