School Dinners
At lunchtime your child may have a school meal, bring a packed lunch from home or go home for lunch. Most of our children stay at school and this is very beneficial for them as they can play and socialise with their friends. Our school meals are cooked on-site in our new kitchen by our current provider, Restaurante École, who provide us with healthy balanced meals freshly prepared from locally sourced, free-range produce. All children eat in the ‘restaurant’, whether they have school meals or bring a packed lunch. If your child is bringing a packed lunch from home please make sure that it does not contain sweets or fizzy drinks and that the drink is not in a glass bottle. All lunchboxes must be clearly marked with your child’s name.
In warmer weather children may enjoy a Restaurant École barbecue or eating their packed lunch on the terrace.
The cost of school meals is available from the office and dinner money must be paid every Monday. Cheques should be made payable to Merryhills Primary School. It is helpful for us to know if your child is entitled to free school meals even if you choose not to take up this entitlement. Please speak to Pat Lowe if you have any questions about school meals.
If your child is going home for lunch they must be collected from outside the office and they should not return to school before the start of the afternoon session at 1.00pm.
We are very pleased to be part of the Governments’ School Fruit Scheme, which provides a piece of fruit to every child from Reception to Year 2. Children are also welcome to bring their own fruit in addition to this and we are very happy for our older children to bring a piece of fruit to school to eat during the morning break. All children are encouraged to drink water regularly – either from our drinking fountains or from their own water bottles.
