An understanding of the natural world is a source of not only great curiosity, but great fulfilment.
Sir David Attenborough
Science is highly valued here at Merryhills. Since our Ofsted inspection in 2018, we are delighted to have been awarded the Science Quality Mark in recognition of the provision we provide for our children. One of our key scientific values which we aim to embed is ‘curiosity’. The Science curriculum at Merryhills feeds that curiosity by encouraging inquiry, problem solving and challenge. We aim to develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts and skills. Our children will understand the value of scientists in our world and know that Science is a viable profession for children in the future.
Inspiring children to learn and achieve, as well as building for a better future, is at the heart of all our lessons.
Using resources such as Explorify, helps children to ask enquiring questions and apply their understanding to real life:
The children work scientifically in all lessons:
As well as learning in class we run a Science Club and take part yearly in British Science Week:
