Understanding English, communication and languages
- Learning the differences between different text genre with a focus on their particular features.
- Writing autobiographies & biographies; speech making; Non-chronological reports; descriptive writing; persuasive writing; study of Shakespeare
- Developing the use of reading journals to record own reading experiences. Using text to support opinions and answer questions
- Starting to learn Spanish
Historical, geographical and social understanding
- Save the planet and Udoit Island: investigating environmental issues and how they affect people, animals and places, applying our knowledge to an island
- Developing a local habitat to encourage wildlife
- Understanding how and why Rosh Hashonnah and Yom Kippur are celebrated
Scientific and technological understanding
- To understand how micro-organisms are beneficial and harmful and the onditions they need to survive
- To design something that can be used from recycled materials
- To learn how animals and plants are adapted to a specific environment
- Revision: the Earth in space; classification keys; food chains and webs; the water cycle; plant parts and their life-cycle
Understanding the arts
- Revising the use of different media for drawing
- To design and create clay tiles of fossils
- Communal recycled art – rainforest collage. To think about different textures and how they can be portrayed using a variety of re-cycled materials
- To investigate how faces can be changed using make-up and paints and the significance of this to different people
- Using ICT to change the appearance of photos
Mathematical understanding
- To consolidate knowledge of place value and the four rules of number, and to use this to solve problems
- Fractions, decimals and percentages and how they relate
- Develop and consolidate mental maths strategies
- Revise knowledge of multiplication
