Year 1 curriculum content
This term is a transition period and our topics will include; colour, light and dark, ourselves, autumn, harvest, Christmas.
English
- Revise initial letter sounds.
- Pratice formation of letters.
- High Frequency words.
- Simple word building for reading and writing.
- Introduce some blends; sh, th, ch, ng, ee, ll, oo, ea, ar, ou, ow.
- Reading fiction including stories, poetry, traditional tales, looking at characters, structure of stories etc.
- Reading non-fiction texts.
- Encouraging independent writing using current phonic knowledge.
- Write stories, lists, labels, signs, captions.
- Paired and small group discussions.
- Developing listening skills.
- Individual and guided reading.
- Choosing own reading books to take home from class library.
- Develop motor skills for writing through ‘write dance’.
- Preparing and performing a Christmas Play.

- Counting forwards and backwards to 20, ordering to 20
- Finding missing numbers in a sequence
- Finding one/two more or less than a given number
